India’s defence sector has witnessed a historic transformation over the past decade, driven by a vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and strong policy support.

A standout achievement in FY 2023-24 is the record ₹1.27 lakh crore in domestic defence production, marking an impressive 174% increase from ₹46,429 crore in 2014-15.

This surge in production underscores India’s commitment to reducing its dependence on foreign defence imports, while simultaneously strengthening its capabilities to meet regional security needs.

 

The Make in India initiative, coupled with comprehensive policy reforms, has been pivotal in driving this progress. India is rapidly becoming a global hub for advanced military technologies and equipment, with ambitions to reach ₹3 lakh crore in defence production by 2029.

The impressive strides in defence manufacturing are not just about numbers; they represent India’s ability to innovate, enhance its strategic independence, and contribute significantly to the global defence market.

As India’s domestic production continues to scale, it not only reinforces national security but also creates a robust ecosystem of defence manufacturing that supports employment, research, and development.

With defence exports soaring to ₹21,083 crore in FY 2023-24, India is making its mark as a trusted global defence partner. The trajectory is clear: India is on the path to becoming a key player in the world’s defence manufacturing and exports sector.
